Mission Statement
Education in the liberal arts prepares students not only
to work but to live. Through the arts, students are encouraged
to develop a zest for intellectual challenges, a love of beauty,
an awareness of their own culture and values, an understanding
of self, empathy and compassion for others, an appreciation
of cultural diversity, and a sense of their relationship and
responsibility to a larger community. These goals are sought
within an atmosphere of free inquiry, dialogue, and interfaith
concern.
Summary
Perform a wide variety of general and specialized office
activities that support the goals of the School of Arts and
provide assistance to faculty members in the completion of
their work. Maintain School of Arts web site and manage distribution
of newsletters.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support to the Dean and other administrators in
the School of Arts; prepare reports, communications, assist
with faculty projects, and record meeting minutes
- Maintain School of Arts website and handle inquiries via
email. Post current faculty contact information, course
schedule, and course syllabi to Department Faculty web site
each semester. Currently managing 4, 700+ web pages within
the Arts alone.
- Generate quarterly newsletter: process submissions, coordinate
with editor and post newsletter as a web page, and coordinate
with the Executive Director of Communications and Marketing
and the Director of Network Systems in the Department of
Information Technology Services to distribute via email
as HTML to Arts full and part-time faculty, alumnae/alumni,
and current students majoring within the school. Also requires
occasional photography and interviews. Newsletter currently
has 1, 371 subscribers.
- Alumni communications in consultation with the Institutional
Advancement Office, and in collaboration with Information
Technology Services and the Director of Publications. Designed
and implement alum birthday e-card and season's greetings
e-card programs.
- Assist Director of International Initiatives with Study
Abroad web site updates, including text, design, etc.
- Supervise office activities and student workers. Currently
manage and/or assign an average of 70 student workers among
six departments in addition to the office of Facing History
and Ourselves.
- Take telephone calls and messages for faculty members
and distribute mail for most faculty members across six
departments.
- Maintain office supplies and monitor condition and use
of copying machine and other equipment.
- Coordinate with the Director of Events Management for
campus reservations, special events, and party planning.
- Assist faculty in production of course syllabi, tests
and other course material.
- Design, generate, and distribute fliers for Arts functions.
- Other similar activities as assigned.
Notes: Currently serving as the School of
Arts representative on the university Web Site Task Force
formed by the President's Office to create a new university
web site. Specifically, using a Stellant Content Management
System to create new web sites for the School of Arts, Study
Abroad, and the CBU Honors Program.
