| On November 13, 1971, Amtrak #1-2, City of New Orleans, made their last runs. Effective November 14, the CHI-NOL schedule reverted to the overnight schedule of the Panama Limited, renumbered 58-59. This series is the last northbound run of #2 on Nov. 13. The consist included IC E-units 2040 and 4024, followed by:
IC bagg/storage mail (ex RPO) 1839 UP coach 5493 L&N coach 3242 IC 4204 diner-counter-lounge L&N coach 3261 N&W coach 1707 N&W coach 1708 IC coach 263? IC coach 2614 IC coach ???? |

A 10 hour late southbound Panama Limited, 12/22/73.

Amtk 436. Rebuilt Jan 1973. Shop not listed, however I suspect Markham, IL.
(Horn changed at this time.)
IC 2021. Rebuilt in Paducah in Feb.1969.
IC 4029. Built EMD, May, 1952.

| These three are all 12-1975, on a bitterly cold day, as is obvious from the steam heat. The car in front of ICG #1 is an observation.... at that time the Panama ran with both dome and obs -- though as I recall with often filthy windows, especially in the dome. |

| Train #59 arriving and departing from Memphis, 1/77. Bill' comment, "Was there any route that was less useful for a dome car? I believe that this might have been one of the NP dome sleepers, however. Perhaps the dome recognized the reality of the schedule at that time, which was anywhere from 4-8 hours late southbound at Memphis on a fairly frequent basis." |
