How do I get a Card?
Continuing students should have already received a notice where to report
to pick-up their new CBU ID cards (see list below) while current employees
should have received their new cards through campus mail. New students
and new employees can go to the Campus Safety/Security Office in St Joseph
Hall Room 16 between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.
DAY (Residents) - During Check-In within your Check-In Packet
DAY (Commuters) - Campus Safety/Security, St. Joseph Hall 16
EVENING - Evening Office, Buckman Hall 114
MBA - MBA Office, Buckman Hall 334
MED – Education Department, Kenrick Hall 118
MEM – MEM Office, Nolan Engineering Center 250
When can I use the lab?
Except for the few minutes that it takes the Help Desk to set the locks
each evening, you’ll be able to use the lab 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. Remember that you won’t have to swipe your card during
regular Computer Center hours when the light is green.
What if my friend forgets his/her card? Can I let him/her in?
As your card logs that you are the one entering the lab, you may be subject
to the cost of any damages to the lab should it happen while you are in
there after hours. As a result, we encourage each student to swipe individually
before entering. Also, please note that during their hourly sweep, Campus
Safety/Security will require any individual to leave who does not have
a valid CBU ID card.
What if the door doesn’t open when I want in?
Assuming that you have swiped your card with the magnetic strip facing
the left and in a downward motion, there is most likely something wrong
with your card. Go to the Campus Safety/Security Office in St Joseph Hall
Room 16 between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday thru Friday to
replace it.
What if the door doesn’t open when I want out?
Beside the door leading out of the lab as well as the main entrance door
there are Exit buttons in green. Push the button and exit. If you are
still having difficulty, use the emergency phone to connect directly to
Campus Safety/Security and they will come to your assistance. You can
also use the phone in the lobby. In that case, dial 3550.
What if the paper runs out?
Unfortunately, no refills will be available until the Help Desk opens
the next day; however, we will fill the printer before we lock-up each
night. Be courteous to your fellow students and limit your printing to
essential materials only please.
How safe is it at night?
While Campus Safety/Security will be walking through the lab hourly, we
encourage you to take the same precautions, as you would when you go to
your car at night. In other words, keep your keys and card in hand. If
you have it, you may also want to keep you cell phone handy as well. Working
with a friend is always a good idea too. Basically, be aware and be smart.
Note that there is also an emergency phone located in the lab in addition
to the emergency phones located throughout the campus.
What if I get the munchies?
While we understand that you can get hungry while working on a project,
the “No Food, No Drink” policy is in effect for this lab just
as it is for any of the campus computer labs. Again, be courteous to your
fellow students and keep the machinery and lab clean so that everybody
can use the lab effectively. Also, please note that during their hourly
sweep, Campus Safety/Security will ask any individual to leave who is
not following this policy.
What if all the computers are being used?
As with any computer lab, the computers are on a first-come, first-serve
basis. However, should someone have work to complete and you are using
the computer for entertainment purposes please be considerate and let
the person complete his/her project first. Just think how you would feel
if you were in his/her place. Also, please note that during their hourly
sweep, Campus Safety/Security could ask any individual to leave who is
using the computers inappropriately.
