Unless otherwise indicated, your admission to these events is paid for by the Honors Program.  However, you may wish to bring money for drinks and snacks.     Note:Seats are sometimes limited and are on a first-RSVP first-served basis, unless that system doesn’t work, in which case I will use another one.  Before you RSVP for an event please check your schedule to be sure you can attend; cancellations are an inconvenience. Monday, August 20 @ 3:30 Rock 'N' Soul Museum Meet in front of Barry Hall at 3:30 Honors Council Hosts: Timothy Keough and Jessica McKinney Robbins Listen to the music and learn about the legends of the blues, gospel and country music.  Created by the Smithsonian Museum the Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum tells the story of musical pioneers who, for the love of music, overcame racist and socio-economic barriers to create the music that shook the entire world. Tuesday, Aug. 21 @ 12:30  Pizza with the Prof with Dr. Stan Eisen on the Biology of Addiction  Honors Council Hosts:  Becca Scott and Roossell Brandon Science 201 Bring a friend and be prepared to hear and see gross things about how tar and nicotine mess up the human body.  And then we’ll have pizza!!!  This event is open to the entire campus so let me know if you want to bring a friend. Friday, Aug. 24 @ 4:00  2nd Annual Beginning of Year Extravaganza (Oh BOYE!!!)  Hosted by Burton Bridges and the Honors Council – Front lawn of campus (between Buckman and E. Parkway) Welcome back festivities for all HP members.  We’ll eat, play some goofy games and reconnect.  Fun, food, friends and Burton; what more could you want?  RSVP to Dr. Burke by 3pm Wednesday, Aug. 22.	Tuesday, Sept. 4 @ 5:30 Senior Smackdown (We have no idea what a smackdown is, but it sounds fun doesn’t it?) Monday, Sept. 24 @ 6:00 Networking 101 – an Honors Leadership activity – with the U. of Memphis Honors Program Meet in front of Barry at 6pm  Hosted by Keith Wyrick and Leigh Hill and the University of Memphis Honors Program If you’re in the Honors Program you’re a leader, and if you’re a leader you need to know how to network, how to work a room and how to charm the socks off of strangers.  This is your chance to learn how to do all of that AND put it into practice with Honors Program students from the University of Memphis.  A professional speaker will equip you with all sorts of critical information and then you’ll be set free to nosh and network with those Smarties at the other end of Central Ave. RSVP to Dr. Burke  by 3pm Monday, Sept. 17. Saturday, Sept. 29 @ noon through Sunday, Sept. 30 @ 10pm HP Freshman Retreat Your retreat team: Burton Bridges, Roossell Brandon, Carolyn Fly and Caitlin Woodward This year's freshmen will travel to Victory Ranch in Bolivar, TN for an unforgettable outdoor adventure experience.  They will swing through trees, fall from platforms, play challenging games, and conquer obstacles on their way to personal growth and team development.  This is a not-to-be missed opportunity. Freshmen are expected to attend.  Cost will be approximately $45.  More information to come.
Sunday, Oct. 7 @ 2:00 CBU Fall Play - Rumors by Neil Simon CBU Theatre Hosted by Caroline Mitchell and Leigh Hill We’ll have pizza and drinks and hang out with the cast and crew after the play. When Chris Gorman and her husband, Ken arrive at a 10 year anniversary party for the Deputy Mayor of New York, they find things are a little askew. The host of the party is injured, his wife is missing and the servants are no where to be found. Hardly an affair Chris and Ken are used to attending. Wednesday, Oct 24 @ 6:00 Murder Mystery night  Honors Classroom – Kenrick 211 Hosted by Burton Bridges and Rachel Escue In what is always the silliest activity of the year, dress up and take on the role of a suspect in a cleverly written murder mystery.  Over pizza (surprise, surprise) we'll reveal clues about our characters that will help us discover who the real murderer is!  RSVP to Dr. Burke by 3pm Wednesday, Oct. 10 (early RSVP necessary for character assignment).
