  CBU Battle of the Brains

Thank you for your interest in CBU's Battle of the Brains, presented by the CBU Honors Program. The Honors Program held the Battle of the Brains in 2004, 2005 and 2006, but due to other commitments there are no plans at this time for future Battles.

Battle of the Brains is a Jeopardy!-like competition in which up to thirteen teams of three students compete for fun, cash and goody bags.   However, please read on for more information about the event.

The competition is a one-day single elimination tournament.  Each game pits two teams against one another with the winning team progressing to the next round.  Assuming that thirteen teams enter, twelve total games would be played, with the tournament champions playing a maximum of four games.

Questions for Battle of the Brains are drawn from a wide array of subjects, much like those on Jeopardy! or in Trivial Pursuit (popular culture, history, geography, etc.).  They also include questions from courses and disciplines taught in all four schools at CBU (business, arts, engineering, and science).

Teams consist of three or four CBU undergraduates enrolled as full-time students as of the date of the tournament.  Only three students may play at a time, but each team may have an alternate member.  The alternate member may play any game, but the three students who start the game must play the entire game.  In other words, the alternate cannot be substituted in and out of a game, but can be designated to play an entire game in the place of another player.  If a team member fails to show up for a game, the members who are present play the game.

Entry fee per player (and alternate) is $5, for a total team entry fee of $15 (no alternate) or $20 (w/ alternate).  All entry fees are donated to the Memphis Child Advocacy Center.

The first 13 teams to submit their application AND pay their entry fee play in the tournament.  Teams who enter and pay after the first thirteen are accepted are put on a waiting list and notified if a team drops out.  If a waiting list team does not play, their entry fee will be refunded.

Students who are interested in playing but do not have a team should e-mail Dr. Burke who will help facilitate the formation of a team.

If you have questions, please e-mail Dr. Burke at tburke@cbu.edu, or call her at 321-3357.
