Spend Summer 2008 in England! Courses Descriptions *ANTH/SOC 160 ----- Teri Mason (3 hrs.) Anthropology provides a very broad perspective for looking at what it means to be a human: who you are, how we as humans got to where we are, how we’ve survived and changed, the role our environments have played, some reasons why our ways of life are so diverse, how we’re similar, and some potential future directions for our species. Anthropology is about looking at life from the larger point of view, and from almost every imaginable direction, and we’ll examine some of these. I hope this class will help you take stock of your own existence and where you fit in a very global world, particularly since we don’t have easy physical access to the international stage on this continent. Imagine what could happen if it was really the norm everywhere to try to understand the world and all of our differences from this perspective rather than our own narrow ones. We will attempt to do a little of this through engaging some of the basics of Anthropology. *ENG 380/Honors 390----- Mary Cargill (3 hrs.) An examination of the life and writings of Lewis, with an emphasis on the autobiographical works such as Surprised by Joy and A Grief Observed, nonfiction works such as Mere Christianity and selected essays, and such works of fiction as The Screwtape Letters, Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and Till We Have Faces. *There will be an honors section of the course with additional class meetings and requirements. |
