American Institute for Foreign
Study (AIFS)

Minority Scholarship: African-American, Asian, Native, or Hispanic-American and Pacific Islanders;
full program fees and roundtrip airfare; runners up are eligible for one of the five $1000
scholarships awarded per semester. Deadline: April 1(Fall) October 15 (Spring)
International Merit Scholarship: 50 $1000 scholarships for the fall semester and 50 $1000 for the
spring semester; 3.0 GPA. Deadline: April 15 (Fall/Summer) November 1(Spring)
Council on International Education
Exchange(CIEE)

Bowman Travel Grants: Provides assistance for students participating in educational programs in
developing countries; applicant must either participate in a Council program, attend a Council member
institution, or plan to participate in a program sponsored by a Council member institution. Grant
amount varies due to Airfare amount. The grant is awarded as a voucher to be exchanged for round-trip
airline tickets to the program destination. Deadline: April 1 for summer, fall, and academic year
programs (beginning from June 1 to December 31), November 1 for spring programs (beginning form

Bailey Minority Student Scholarship: To promote under-represented groups in study abroad especially
ethnic minorities. $500 award. Deadline: April 1 for summer, fall, and academic year programs
(beginning from June 1 to December 31). November 1 for spring programs (beginning from January 1 to
May 31) (Available only if participating in Council Study Center programs)
LULAC National Scholarship

Hispanic students attending colleges or universities at both undergraduate and graduate levels;
community based scholarship program; 3.0 GPA. Deadline: March 31 for turning in completed applications
to the local LULAC Council for the Fall Semester. (The scholarship is a 2-semester scholarship with a
mandatory Fall grade report to receive the Spring payment.) Applications are available after April 1.

Rotary Ambassadorial

Academic-Year Ambassadorial, Multi-Year Ambassadorial, Cultural Ambassadorial. Awards range from
$10,000-$22,000 (depending on the scholarship); applicants must be citizens of a country in which
there is a Rotary club. Each Rotary club has different scholarships. Deadline: Applications for Year
2006-2007 is December 1, 2005. The program is more fully described on the Rotary International web

German Chancellor Scholarship: Study on humanities, social sciences, law and economics in Germany;
monthly allowance; program and travel expenses; program begins in September and lasts for one year. To
be eligible, applicant must have at least a bachelor's degree and be under 35 years of age. Deadline:
October 31
Humboldt Research Fellowship Program: Applicants, who must have their doctorate and be under 40 years
of age, design their own research project and select host German institution for a stay of 6-12
months. Provides a monthly allowance and permits for special allowances when necessary. Applications
can be submitted at any time.

Japanese Government (Monbusho) Scholarship for Japanese Studies: U.S. citizen enrolled as an
undergraduate student studying the Japanese language, culture or a closely related field as a major;
allowance given for a necessary time period to complete the course within the term from September or
October to August or September (142,500 yen per month); personal interviews and a Japanese language
proficiency examination conducted at the office. Deadline: March 24
