Study in Spain, Barcelona, Costa Brava and Carcassone, France

Spring Break March 3-10, 2007

Join our walking classroom as we explore the art, culture, economy, and language of the Catalonia region of Spain and the Citadel of Carcassone in France. Visit Barcelona with its 2000-year history, its avant-garde artistic currents, and its dedication to tradition. Explore the Costa Brava, on the Mediterranean from Barcelona to France. Visit picturesque towns and ancient sights of early Greek and Roman settlements. Also see the historic towns of Gerona and Figueras, home of the surrealist painter, Salvador Dali.

Tentative list of sights:

  • Walk down the world famous La Rambla in Barcelona to the port
  • Visit Picasso Museum
  • Explore the Bari Gothic (old town) and see La Seu Cathedral begun in 1298
  • Visit La Sagrade Familia, begun in 1882 by Anton Gaudi and still unfinished
  • Visit the Monastery of Montserrat (sacred mountain) overlooking the coast
  • Stay in Figueras and visit the Salvador Dali Museum
  • Visit the town of Roses on the Gulf of Roses, founded by the Greeks
  • Visit the picturesque towns of Cadaques and Port Lligat on the coast
  • Explore Ampurias, ancient Phoenician, Greek and Roman settlements
  • Visit the old-world town of Gerona, capital of the Catalonian province
  • Enjoy a day trip to Carcassone, France to the magnificent medieval walled city

Students must register for one of the following courses for Spring Semester:

- Global Studies #301: Culture and Civilization of Spain
    ----------- Emily Forsdick (3 hrs.)
- Spanish-#400: Research Topics in Spanish
    ----------- Br. Francisco Martin (3hrs.)
- Economics #460: Global Economy: Spain
    ----------- Pat Papachristou (3 hrs)

All courses will satisfy study abroad requirements for global studies minor.

Program costs are approximately $2,400.00* for full time students registered for one of the above courses for spring semester. Part-time students are welcome, but must add tuition at the reduced rate of $200 per credit hour.

A $300 non-refundable payment now will hold your place until November 22. Deadline for applying is November 22nd. Incremental payments as follows:
November 22 - $700
December 13 - $700
January 26 - $700

*There will be a $100 late fee for all payments received after the due date Includes: airfare, bus rides, 7 nights, breakfast daily, 5 dinners, entrance fee to sights, English-speaking tour guide, flamenco dance show and medical insurance.
