Christian Brothers University Christian Brothers University, founded in 1871, is a Catholic institution of higher education in the tradition of the Christian Brothers. It is a private, comprehensive university that emphasizes excellence in teaching and individualized attention to the whole person in a values-oriented, interfaith educational community. The University prepares students for professional careers and lives of moral responsibility and constructive community involvement. The first private institution in Memphis to integrate, it has always welcomed people of all faiths. CBU is the largest, most comprehensive private university in West Tennessee, offering degrees in Engineering, Business, Science, Liberal Arts, and Education to 2000 students. CBU is ranked in U.S. News and World Report's Top Tier of Southern Universities Granting Master's Degrees and is also ranked as a “best value” and for is campus diversity among Southern universities. The University offers graduate programs in business administration, education and engineering management. CBU is a member of the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference, which has schools in Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. The Gulf South is one of the premier all-sports conferences in the nation, and its teams have captured national titles in almost every sport.
