Bucs Cage Tigers, 78-67
Memphis--The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team outfought the University of West Alabama Tigers at De La Salle Gymnasium, winning the physical contest 78-67.
CBU would drain five of 13 shots from three-point range in the first half en route to a nine point first half advantage. CBU did commit 5 more turnovers than the Tigers in the first half but maintained the lead in part to a 22-9 rebounding advantage.
The match would become more physical in the second half with 24 fouls and 40 free throw attempts combined by both teams. CBU connected on 19 of 24 free throw attempts in the second half compared to UWA's 50% shooting in the second half on 8 of 16 shooting giving CBU the 11 point difference in the game.
Freshman Clint Dowdle (Cordova, TN) led the Bucs in scoring with 14 points connecting on 3 of 4 shots from behind the arc. Brandon Corbin (Nashville, TN) earned a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and would help lead the Bucs to a 44-25 rebounding advantage over the visitors. Shemon "Boo" Reaves (Bolivar, TN), Jake Bazeley (Cincinnati, OH), and Adam Heitzman (Memphis, TN) would also add double digit scoring for the Buccaneers.
Richard Stone would lead West Alabama with 16 points and five rebounds. Guard Cadarrall Eddings added 11 points and seven assists for the Tigers.
The Bucs bench would outscore the Tigers 26-9. For the game, the Bucs shot 50% from the floor and 80% from the line compared to UWA's 41% shooting from the floor and 61% shooting from the free throw line. The Bucs would also hold the Tigers to 14.3% shooting from the three-point range for the game.
The Bucs will play again at home Wednesday, December 5th, at 7 P.M. against Bellarmine University.
