CBU Gets Revenge Over Miners, 81-71
Memphis--After losing nine days ago on the road at Rolla, MO., the Christian Brothers University Buccaneers, playing an inspired second half, welcomed the University of Missouri-Rolla Miners to Memphis with a 81-71 victory inside De La Salle Gymnasium tonight .
Missouri-Rolla would lead the entire first half out shooting CBU 57.1% to 39.3% for the half, but the resilient Bucs would not go away. With just over six minutes remaining to play, and trailing 30-17, the Bucs outscored the visiting Miners 15 to seven down the stretch to pull within five, 37-32, at the half.
The Bucs would keep the momentum to begin the second half on another 15 to seven run, giving CBU the five-point lead.
Although the Miners would briefly regain the lead, the Buccaneers would end the game on an 18 to ten run in the final six minutes of action for the win. In the second half, the Buccaneers shot an impressive 55.9% from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range while holding the Miners to 35.5% shooting for the half.
For the Bucs, senior Shemon "Boo" Reaves would score five first half points before exploding for twelve second half points, to earn his first double double of the year with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Adam Heitzman added 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Also scoring in double digits for the Bucs were Brandon Corbin with twelve points, and Clint Dowdle adding eleven points and five assists.
Scott Holly would lead the Miners with 22 points, with 17 in the second half. Brian Westre would contribute a double double (18 points, 13 rebounds) before fouling out of the game. Ike Muonelo would add ten points and Kerry Darting would add six assists.
With the win, the Buccaneers improve to 3-6 on the year, while the Missouri-Rolla Miners drop to 7-2.
CBU will return to action, Saturday, January 5th as the Bucs open Gulf South Conference action at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, AR. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
