![]() Heartbreak Continues for Bucs Basketball
MEMPHIS, TN— With nine seconds left in regulation, a streaking Bryan Biley collected a Terry Duncan bounce pass in the low block and, aided by the glass, softly laid home the SAU game-winning basket. After a stingy ‘Rider defense would surrender only an errant Brandon Corbin misfire on the Buc’s final possesion, CBU was forced to watch Southern Arkansas celebrate the one-point victory. Just 48-hours ago, the Bucanneers were forced to watch Henderson State University celebrate the same fate – a narrow 61-59 win. Needing the victory to still contend for a GSC tournament berth, SAU improved to 14-7 on the year with a 7-5 league mark. CBU slides to a disappointing 6-17 overall stand with an equally disappointing 3-10 GSC record. Biley’s 7-of-15 outing from the floor would lead all scorers with 20 points on the night, while teammate LeAndre Gipson added a 12-point, seven-rebound performance. Senior shooting guard Shawn Mason chipped in with 11 points on a 5-of-11 effort from the floor. Corbin would pace the CBU offense with a solid 16-point, team-high eight-rebound, two assist, one block and one steal performance in his 37 minutes. Freshman Jake Bazeley continued to solidify his role as a dependant scorer, as 6-4 Cincinnati, Ohio, native added 13 points to pair with his five caroms. For the first time in the 2001-2002 campaign, sophomore Dustin Hoover reached the double-figure mark, as the 6-6 forward came off the bench to knock down 5-of-7 tries from the floor for 14 points. SAU out-shot CBU 48-42 from the field, while also holding a slight 35-32 advantage on the rebounding glass. CBU will look to rebound, Thursday, February 14th, as the Bucs play host to Harding University at 7:30 PM inside De La SALLE Gymnasium. |
