Bucs Fall Short In Upset Bid
MEMPHIS--The upset-minded Christian Brothers University Buccaneers came up just short tonight, in the De La Salle Gymnasium, against the 16th ranked Henderson State University Reddies in Gulf South Conference action, 72-66.
Despite a valiant effort from the Buccaneers and pulling to within two points of the Reddies several times down the stretch, CBU could not overcome losing the battle of the boards, 27-40.
During the first half, the Buccaneers would shoot 46.4% from the field including a blistering 70% from behind the arc on 7-of-10 shooting. HSU would also shoot well with a 48.3% clip in the first half but was held to a 0-5 outing from three-point range.
Despite the Bucs three-point prowess, the halftime score would give CBU a one-point lead, 37-36, mainly because of a 13 to 4 advantage in free throw attempts in favor of HSU.
HSU would continue to shoot well from the field in the second half while the Buccaneers shooting touch cooled to 33.3% from the field in the second half including 3-13 from behind the arc. HSU shot 59.1% from the field in the second half giving them 52.9% shooting for the game.
