Lady Buc Softball Signs Four Locals
Memphis--The Christian Brothers University head softball coach, Donna Crone, announced earlier today the signing of four additional local players to her 2001-2002 softball roster. The four new prospects will join the recently signed Megan Sharp who was recently selected at the Best of the Preps Player of the Year.
Joining the Lady Buccaneers as an incoming freshman is Jennifer Longo. Longo, a 5’8" first baseman from Bartlett High School, is expected to make an immediate impact on the Lady Buc squad. She will be splitting time at first base with senior Shanna Wall as well as playing some at third. Hitting a consistent .310 in high school, Longo was an All-district and a Best of the Preps during the 2000-2001 seasons.
Immaculate Conception High School standout, Lisa Durrant will also be joining the Lady Bucs behind the plate for the upcoming season. Durrant, was an All-metro and All-Regional selection her sophomore and junior seasons was voted team Co-MVP her sophomore season and team Most Valuable Player her junior season with a batting .328 batting average.
Jessica Hancock, a graduate of St. Agnes High School, will join the Lady Bucs as an outfielder. The 5’3" freshman is expected to see several innings in the outfield for the Lady Bucs. Hancock was a Commercial Appeal Best of the Preps selection her freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons as well as a member of the First Team Division II West All-region softball team. Hitting .387 at the plate as a prep, Hancock is expected to be a consistent hitter for the Lady Bucs.
Also joining the Lady Bucs is pitcher, Angela Dunn. The Bartlett High School standout had an 0.86 ERA as a prep striking out 48 batters with only 12 walks to her credit in 33 games. She maintained a .291 batting average with 23 hits and 21 RBI. She was also a member of the Bartlett Angels Junior Olympic Team from 1995-98.
"We are extremely excited about signing these exceptional athletes," said head coach Donna Crone. "Adding these high school standouts with our already improving team will only make us better for the future."
