Lady Bucs Roar Past Lady Lions
Memphis--The Christian Brothers University women’s basketball team, playing for the first time in seven days, turned up the defensive pressure to hold off the late surge from the visiting University of North Alabama Lions, 69-67, tonight inside De La Salle Gymnasium.
With the win, the Lady Bucs remain unbeaten at 6-0, while the Lady Lions would drop to 4-3 on the year.
CBU, down by as many as ten points in the first half, got back in to the game on a 20 to seven run to end the first half. Both teams shot exceptionally well from the field in the first half, as UNA netted 52% from the field on 13-25 shooting, including two of three from behind the arc. CBU would shoot close behind with 46.7% shooting connecting on 14 of 30 shots including four of nine three-point shots.
Freshmen guard Rubenia Finley (Rome, GA) would lead CBU with 19 points, scoring 15 in the first half. Senior Mary Buford (London, AR) would add 16 points including 6 of 9 free throws, while Junior Sarah Condra (Millington, TN) scored 14 points and collected 6 assists playing in 38 minutes. Although both Amonica Wiggins (Duncan, OK) and Crystal Howard (Memphis, TN) would only score two points each, both Lady Bucs’ would contribute 8 rebounds apiece.
UNA would be led by Collierville alum Taryn Causey. Causey drained five of six three point attempts leading all scorers with 25 on the night. Alana Sinyard would add 13 points and Amber Deline would record a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
CBU would play tough defensively in the second half holding the Lions to 38.5% shooting, while the Buccaneer offense continued to remain hot shooting 54.5% from the field bettering their first half effort.
The Lady Bucs will return to action in a rematch with LeMoyne-Owen College Saturday, December 15th, at 2:30 PM.
