Lady Bucs Remain Perfect At 7-0
By Rori Eddie

Memphis--Despite the 12-day lay-off and despite not netting its first points until the 14:19 mark of the first half, the Christian Brothers University women’s basketball team battled back to post a 65-51 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College today inside Bruce Hall.

The Lady Magicians sprinted to a 10-0 run to start the contest, but a resilient Lady Bucs squad fought back on the strength of Crystal Howard’s team-high nine first-half points. The sophomore forward came off the bench to drain a clutch three-pointer with 1:56 left to play in the half, giving CBU its first lead of the contest, 24-22.

Christian Brothers University would add two more buckets, while holding LeMoyne-Owen scoreless the remainder of the half to carry the 28-22 advantage in the locker room at the intermission.

The second-half would belong to Sarah Condra on the outside and Amonica Wiggins in the paint, as the junior duo combined for 20 of the 37 Lady Buccaneer second-half points. Condra would collect on five-of-her 12 attempts from beyond the three-point line to finish the afternoon with a game-high 17 points.

Wiggins dominated on the inside, as the 6-0 center tore down a game-high 12 caroms to pair with her 12 points, including 9 in the second-half. Howard would finish the game with 11 points, while teammate Rubenia Finley found double-figures behind a 10 point, 7 rebound, one steal outing.

Christian Brothers out-rebounded the Lady Magicians 45-37, while barely out-shooting LeMoyne-Owen 39-38 from the field for the game. The Lady Bucs also faired better behind the arc, netting 6-of-18 attempts as a team, compared to the Lady Magician’s 1-of-4 performance.

With the victory, the Lady Buccaneers still boast an unblemished 7-0 record, while the LeMoyne-Owen slips to 1-6 on the year.

Christian Brothers University will return to De La Salle Gymnasium, Monday, December 17th, to play host to Lambuth University in a non-conference match-up. The Eagles will come into the contest with an 11-3 mark on the year. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
