Lambuth Ends Lady Buc's Steak
Memphis--The Christian Brothers University women’s basketball tasted defeat tonight for the first time this season at the hands of the Lambuth Eagles, 76-57, inside De La Salle Gymnasium.
CBU would enjoy the early lead in the contest up by as many as ten points in the first half. Lambuth would use a twelve to two run to tie the game with five minutes remaining, leading to a 30-29 first-half advantage.
The momentum continued into the second half for Lambuth. The Lady Eagles shot a blistering 61.5% from the field in the second half to outscore the Lady Bucs by 18 points after halftime. In the second half, Lambuth connected on 8-of-13 shots from behind the arc while CBU only managed one of 14 shots in three-point range.
Christian Brothers University would be led by Sarah Condra’s 14 points and Crystal Howard’s 10 points, the only Lady Buccaneers to find double digits. Rubenia Finley and Mary Buford would contribute six rebounds apiece, while Tamara Twinn would add five assists.
Lambuth University would be led by Tia Cawthorn’s 19 points and eleven rebounds. Amber Selvog scored 16 points, including four of five from three-point range. Hollie Wimpee, twelve points, and Helen Goate, eleven points, also would contribute double digits in scoring. For the game, the Bucs were out shot 46.6% to 31.7% from the field, their worst shooting performance on the year.
With the loss, the Lady Buccaneers drop to 7-1, while Lambuth improves to 12-3 on the year.
Christian Brothers University will return to action Sunday, December 30th, against St. Anselm in the first round of the Barry University Tournament in Miami Shores, FL. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
