By Rori A. Eddie

MONTICELLO, AR—The University of Arkansas-Monticello women’s basketball team owns two victories in Gulf South Conference action. They both come at the hands of Christian Brothers University, as the Cotton Blossoms bettered the Lady Bucs, 68-60, today inside Steelman Fieldhouse.

The victory improves UAM to an 8-12 mark overall with a 2-8 tally in the GSC standings, while CBU slips to 9-11 on the season with an evenly matched 2-8 tally in league play. The Lady Buccaneers are nursing a four game losing streak.

Behind a solid shooting effort in the first half of play, the Cotton Blossoms opened up a 35-24 advantage going into the halftime break. UAM shot a stout 57.1 percent from three-point territory with an equally strong 13-of-23 effort from the field.

Despite outscoring the Blossoms in the second half, 36-33, the Lady Bucs just could never over come the 11-point half-time deficit.

CBU also struggled to answer Serita Gauldin’s presence on the low block for Arkansas-Monticello. Gauldin poured in a 31-point, 11-rebound performance tonight, behind a 12-of-19 showing from the floor. Teammate Zell Harris added 15 points, connecting on 8-of-10 tries from the charity stripe. Sharon Jones added 10 points in the UAM victory.

Tamara Twinn
led the CBU offense with 17 points on a 5-of-9 shooting night from three-point land. Teammate Crystal Howard joined Twinn in double-figures, collecting 10 points of her own with two made three-point field goals.

The Lady Buccaneers will have no time to lick to their wounds, as CBU plays host No. 21 nationally-ranked University of Central Arkansas, Monday, February 4th at 5:30 PM.
