![]() Turnovers Turn Over Lady Bucs
MEMPHIS, TN— The win bumps UCA to an 18-3 stand overall with a stout 9-2 mark in GSC action, while the Lady Bucs, on the heels of a five-game losing streak, slide to 9-12 on the season with a 2-9 conference record. The No. 21 nationally ranked Sugar Bears wasted no time setting the offensive tone, as UCA combined for a collective 66.7 shooting percentage from the floor in the first half of play. The Lady Bucs could only respond with a dismal 7-of-22 outing inside field goal range. CBU’s 18-first half turnovers did not help the home cause, as an aggressive UCA offense tallied 20 points off the Lady Bucs miscues. By the buzzer’s sound, the Sugar Bears would own a comfortable 45-23 halftime lead. The Lady Bucs would outscore UCA in the second half, 40-34, but 12 more CBU turnovers would cut short any chance of a heroic comeback in front of the home crowd. For the contest, the Sugar Bears offered a 58.0 shooting percentage from the floor, while bottoming an even 4-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc. Christian Brothers would retaliate with a better long-distance performance, behind junior Sarah’s Condra’s team-high 7-of-10 effort from three-point land. Condra would end the night with 21 points, while teammate Rubenia Finley added 12 points and a team-high six rebounds in her 26 minutes of action. Ashley Smith would be the next closest scorer with 8 points on a 4-of-8 shooting performance. Inside the paint, UCA’s Genai Walker could do no wrong, as the 6-2 sophomore center connected on 11-of-15 attempts from the floor to collect a game-high 23 points. Freshman sensation Carone Harris troubled the CBU backcourt for 12 steals, added with her 16 points; to complete the impressive double-double effort. Bekka Middleton matched 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. The Christian Brothers University women’s basketball will take some time off, before returning to the hardwood again, Saturday, February 9th. The Lady Bucs are scheduled to tangle with GSC foe, Henderson State University at 6 PM.
