By Rori Eddie

MEMPHIS, TN—The Christian Brothers University women’s basketball team collected its second consecutive Gulf South Conference victory tonight inside De LaSalle Gymnasium, as the Lady Buccaneers pounded visiting Harding University to the tune of a 76-56 walloping.

Slowed by poor shooting performance in the first half (39.3 percent from the floor), CBU responded in the second half of play with a 51.9 shooting percentage from the field combined with a staggering and tireless defense that forced 25 Harding turnovers.

The Lady Bucs would convert those 25 HU miscues into 18 points, while also controlling a 13-0 advantage on second-chance baskets. CBU outscored the Lady Bison 44-22 in the second half.

Amonica Wiggins would turn in the performance of her season, as the junior forward netted a perfect 6-of-6 tries from the field to finish with a team high 17-points. Wiggins would also collect a team-high seven rebounds, while teammate Mary Buford offered six rebounds with her 16-point night on 5-of-10 shooting.

The shooting guard combination of Rubenia Finley and Sarah Condra would also find the double-figure mark, as the two added 12 and 10 point outings, respectively.

Kendra Bell’s 17 points off the bench would pace the Lady Bison offense. Teammate Mindy Napier bottomed 5-of-8 tries from the floor to collect 13 points in her 35 minutes of action.

CBU improved its overall stand to 11-13 on the year, while climbing to a 4-10 mark in GSC competition. The Harding Lady Bison fall to 10-13 for the season with a 4-9 league record.

The Lady Bucs will take to the road for the last time on the 2001-2002 regular season schedule when CBU travels to Cleveland, MS to battle the Delta State University Lady Statesmen. Game time is slated for 6 PM start on February 19th.
