CBU Records First GSC Win

Memphis, TN--The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneers put together two complete halves of basketball, inside De La Salle Gymnasium, today ending their six game slide, with a 68-53 win against the visiting Lady Reddies from Henderson State University.

The Lady Bucs used a 19-0 run in the first half to build a 34-22 halftime advantage. In the second half, the Lady Bucs would force nine turnovers and would shoot 92.9% from the charity stripe connecting on 13-of-14 free throw attempts.

The Lady Bucs shot 48.4 percent from the field for the first half, while connecting on 4-of-10 attempts from three-point territory. Although the Lady Bucs would cool offensively in the second half, CBU shot 40.7% from the field for the game including 38.9% from long distance.

CBU would out-assist the Lady Reddies nine to one in the first half and 14 to four for the game, while forcing 16 HSU turnovers to the Lady Buccaneer’s eight. The defense would also hold the Lady Reddies top three scorers to twelve points, 27 points below their season average.

With the win, CBU improves to 8-5 overall, and 1-3 in the GSC. HSU slides to 6-6 on the year and 1-2 in league play.

On a 6-of-11 outing from three-point land, Sarah Condra led all scorers with a team-high 24 points. Freshman Rubenia Finley collected 12 points on the afternoon. Crystal Howard would add nine points and contribute a team-high six rebounds.

Kit Savage would lead HSU in scoring and rebounding with 14 points and seven caroms. Tracey Austin, Mandy Hill, and Kenneshia Henderson would each add eight points for the visitors.

Christian Brothers University tips-off next, Monday, January 14th, against Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Arkansas at 6 PM.
