BUCCANEERS RUN TO THIRD PLACE FINISH
PENSACOLA, FL-Aided by three Top 15 finishes, the Christian Brothers University men's cross country team locked its best finish of the young 2002 season, as the Buccaneers claimed a third-place finish at University of West Florida's Argonaut Invitational, today.
The host Argonauts took medallist honors with a 28-point finish, while fellow Gulf South Conference opponent, Valdosta State, captured silver medal honors with 67 points. The Buccaneers rounded out the Top Three with 71 points. Mississippi College (79), West Alabama (132), South Alabama (132), Belhaven (217) and Spring Hill College rounded out the finishes, respectively.
CBU's Ben Knoernschild muscled to third-place finish with a mark of 27:50 on the 8K course. The effort notes the Buccaneer's top individual-showing of the 2002 season. Knoernschild would only be bettered by UWF's Sam Ishee (26:39) and South Alabama's Simon Kipchirchir (27:36).
Caleb Allen made his debut performance with the CBU squad and finished with a time of 28:56 for a 13th place finish. Teammate Zack Wilkinson crossed the tape at the 29:11 mark en-route to claiming the 14th position on the day's leader board.
Brent Ellis worked to a time of 31:01 (25th), while Will Wright's mark of 31:13 proved good enough for 28th on the leader board. John Myers (31:39), Francisco Zurita (32:17) and Bryan Brandon (32:21) rounded out the CBU effort.
The Christian Brothers University women's cross country squad delivered a 7th place finish overall, with newcomer Kim Crump registering the top Lady Buccaneer time of 24:45. Valdosta State won the top spot in the 5K race, with South Alabama's Bibiche Mankatu garnering individual medallist honors behind an effort of (20:17).
CBU Cross Country Debuts in 2002
MEMPHIS, TN-The Christian Brothers University men's and women's cross country teams made its debut outing in 2002, as part of the University of Memphis-hosted King Cat Invitational at Plough Park, today.
The Buccaneer squad posted a fourth-place finish behind Murray State's 21-point first-place effort. Rhodes College noted a second-place finish with 47-points, while the Skyhawks of UT-Martin registered the bronze finish with 89 points. Mississippi College rounded out the standings with 114-point effort (5th place).
Sophomore Ben Knoernschild clocked with a top-CBU effort of 22:28.33 for an overall 10th place finish. University of Memphis' Balazs Laszio earned medallist honors at this mornings' four-mile run with a mark of 20:37.09.
Zach Wilkinson garnered a 14th place finish behind a time of 23:00.00, while teammate Bryan Brandon noted a 35th finish with an effort of 24:39.98. Junior Jonathon Myers' time of 25:08.36 staked a 39th finish, overall, while Brent Ellis ran a 25:23.24 en-route to a 43rd place effort. Francisco Zurita (25:55.72) and William Wright (27:04.05) rounded out the strong Buccaneer showing.
Meanwhile, the Lady Buccaneers claimed a collective 4th place showing, behind Rhodes College, Murray State and UT-Martin, respectively. Brandi Adams took top-CBU honors with a time of 15:01.75, while Lady Buc newcomer Kim Crump captured a 33rd overall finish with a 15:16.25 two-mile effort.
