By Rori Eddie

Montevallo, AL - The Christian Brothers University women’s soccer teams cruised to its second consecutive Gulf South Conference shutout, as the Lady Buccaneers used a two-goal first period and a four-goal second half to blank the Lady Falcons, 6-0, this afternoon on the campus of University of Montevallo.

This victory improves CBU to 8-0 on the year and 3-0 in the GSC standings, while Montevallo falls to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Junior midfielder Lauren Carpenter (Shreveport, LA) got CBU to the scoreboard at the 9:14 mark with her first goal of the season on the Jessica Helter (Cordova, TN) assist.

Offensive powerhouse Missy Gregg recorded two goals in the contest, with an unassisted score in the 10th minute of play and a successful penalty kick in the opening minutes of the second half. With the two goals, Gregg climbs to 22 scores on the season, just four shy of the single season record held by senior medical redshirt Tina Froberg (26 goals scored in 2000).

Arna Heimlund (Tomso, Norway) was the beneficiary of a Margaret Saurin cross, which the 5’7" junior forward deposited squarely to the back of the net to put the Lady Bucs comfortably ahead at 4-0.

Saurin, herself, would find the net in the 81st minute of action on a Missy Gregg cross. The score marked Saurin’s 11th goal of the season.

Sofia Rask (Hallstahammar, Sweden) capped the CBU scoring attack with an unassisted goal in the 85th minute of play to ice the 6-0 shutout victory.

On the year CBU is outscoring their opponents at a clip of 58-7, while only allowing 50 shots on goal.

Christian Brothers will return to Signiago Field October 12, for a non-conference match-up with the University of Tampa at 5 p.m.
