Gregg Breaks Scoring Records
Memphis - The Christian Brothers University women’s soccer team exploded to its third consecutive Gulf South Conference shutout while Missy Gregg (Centerville, OH) scored six goals to give her 32 goals on the year. The mark breaks both the school and Gulf South Conference records for goals scored in a single season.
CBU would use a five-goal first period and a seven-goal second half to blank the Lady Lions, 12-0.
This victory improves CBU to 10-0 on the year and 4-0 in the GSC standings, while North Alabama falls to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Missy Gregg would start the scoring for the Lady Buccaneers at the 3:53 mark in the first half on an assist from Sofia Rask giving the Bucs the lead and breaking the CBU scoring record set by Tina Froberg at 26 last season.
Arna Heimlund (Tromso, Norway) would score at the 17:04 mark off of an assist by Gregg and Veronica Botold (Vasteras, Sweden). Gregg would score three more times in the half giving the Lady Buccaneers a commanding 5-0 lead at halftime.
The second half would prove to be more of the same with Ashley Newbern (Germantown, TN) scoring off of a pass from Bridgette Centella (Germantown, TN) with only five minutes elapsed. Gregg would score the next two goals for CBU giving her 32 on the year, while Heimlund would find the goal a second time on the night.
Anna Thorsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) would add two goals for the Bucs and Rachel Wehner (Cordova, TN) would end the scoring for the Lady Bucs on a header from Thorsdottir.
The CBU offense would take 43 shots against North Alabama; the Lions managed seven shots against the Lady Bucs defense. CBU goalkeeper Jennifer Simon (Alberta, Canada) would make one save during the first 19 minutes before succumbing to injury. Teresa Fuller (Collierville, TN) would make four saves while playing the final 71 minutes to preserve the shutout. Shelley Huggins would make 12 saves and Hope Skaggs would make three saves on the night for the Lions.
Christian Brothers will return to Signiago Field October 19, for a Gulf South Conference match-up with Alabama-Huntsville at 5:30 p.m.
