Lady Bucs Continue to Cruise: CBU 12, OBU 0
Arkadelphia, AR - The Christian Brothers University women’s soccer team blasted Ouachita Baptist University (5-10-3, 2-6-0 GSC), 12-0, to stay undefeated at 15-0 overall and a perfect 7-0 in Gulf South Conference play today.
The victory marks the sixth consecutive shutout by the Lady Bucs, as senior captain Teresa Fuller played a full ninety minutes in net to secure her second scoreless appearance of the season.
More convincingly, the CBU defense allowed no shots on goal, while the Lady Bucs rocketed 41 shots in the OBU box, only 16 of which Lady Tiger keeper Lindsey Cox was able to save.
Margaret Saurin would be the first the find the scoring column for the Lady Bucs, as the junior midfielder converted a Missy Gregg assist for the first of her four goals on the night. Saurin would collect four scores and four assists on the day to climb to a 17-goals scored, 18-assist season.
Gregg would add to her name to scoring column in the 5th minute of play behind an Anna Rask assist. Gregg would finish with six goals and two assists on the night for a total of 14 points, giving her a whopping 115 points on the year.
The break marks the second NCAA Division II record to fall this week at the "foot" of Gregg. Pauliina Miettinen of Franklin Pierce had logged 105 points in 21 games during the 1998 campaign. Gregg’s record-breaking performance comes in only 14 games.
Behind her four assists in today’s outing, Rask finds herself only three assists shy of cracking an NCAA record of her own, while the Lady Bucs need only one more goal on the season to break the goals scored in a single season team record.
Anna Thorsdottir added the final two goals and two assists in the CBU victory, while teammate Arna Heimlund added an assist.
The Christian Brothers University women’s soccer team will return to action tomorrow against GSC-opponent, Central Arkansas at 1:00 PM in Conway, Arkansas.
