Margaret
Saurin Margaret, or Mags as her players
refer to her as, came to CBU in 2001, and along with teammate
Missy Gregg began to re-write every CBU, as well as NCAA record, for scoring the
game has ever seen. Saurin helped lead the team to a national runner-up finish
in 2001 as she set an NCAA record for assists with 29. Being the primary passer,
she helped Gregg to set an NCAA All-Divisions mark of goals and points with 73
and 156, respectively. She was a First-Team All-American and a First-Team
All-South Region selection as well as being named First-Team All-Gulf South and
a member of the GSC Honor Roll. Her senior year was spectacular as it culminated in a
National Championship victory over Nebraska-Omaha. She broke her previous record
with 35 assists on the season, and helped lead the country’s most potent
offense. She was an All-GSC selection, as well as a member of the All-Academic
team, the All-Tournament team, an All-South Region selection, and a Second-Team
All-American Selection. The awards culminated when she was awarded the GSC’s
Commissioner’s Trophy. The award goes to the athlete that combines athletic
achievements with excellence in the classroom. Mags compiled a 3.95 GPA in the
classroom where she finished with four-straight semesters on the Dean’s List at
CBU. The Dublin, Ireland native earned a degree in education at
CBU and is currently working on her Master’s in Education at CBU. |
