Memphis, TN – The Christian Brothers University
Buccaneer baseball team used a bases-loaded suicide squeeze
in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Harding, 9-8
in game two, splitting with the Bison after losing game one,
11-2.
CBU (14-24, 1-16 GSC) got a solid start from freshman Billy
Rasch in game one, going five innings, not allowing a
run until the fifth inning.
HU (15-22, 3-11 GSC) hit three home runs over a four-inning
span to take game one. They hit seven all together in the
double-header.
The Bucs went on top first in game two, scoring twice in
the first inning. Michael
St. Cin singled up the middle and John
Raymond Hehn walked behind him. Both runners moved up
on a ground out and Wes
Hoover doubled home the two runs.
Harding scored four runs over the second, third and fourth
innings, but a sacrifice fly from Hehn and a three-run home
run from Brian DeJean
gave the Bucs a 6-5 lead. Harding scored twice in the fifth
before a single from St. Cin scored Ryne
Dahlke to tie the game again. A home run from Harding
in the sixth gave the Bison a quick one-run lead before Blake
Christian tied the game with a blast of his own in the
bottom of the sixth.
John Daush
held Harding scoreless in the top of the seventh, and Mark
Foster singled to start the bottom half of the inning.
St. Cin moved Foster up to second with a sacrifice Bunt, and
Foster advanced to third when a pickoff attempt went into
centerfield. Harding intentionally walked both Hehn and DeJean
setting up Shane
Hogan. Hogan bunted down the first base line and Foster
scored the winning run as the first baseman couldn't come
up with the play.
St. Cin went 6-8 on the day, with three RBIs and two runs
scored including a home run in game one. Dahlke went 3-8 with
two runs scored in the double-header. Foster scored twice.
Daush got his second win of the season, pitching two innings
of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one.
Both teams will be back at it tomorrow, April 10 in a single-game
at 1 p.m.
