Four Southwest Pitchers Combine
To One-Hit Bucs
Box Score
Memphis, TN – A quartet of pitchers
for Southwest Tennessee Community College combined to one-hit
the Christian Brothers University Buccaneer baseball team
today and the Saluqis defeated CBU 2-0 in the final game
of the 2005 Fall Nostalgia Man Classic at AutoZone Park.
CBU didn't get a hit until the third inning when centerfielder
Shane Hogan flew
to the left-center wall for a lead-off double. He was stranded
at second, however as the left Bucs six runners over the
third, fourth and fifth
innings.
Southwest second baseman Jeremy Finney was the offensive
sparkplug for the Saluqis today. He led off the game with
a double down the left field line. He doubled and scored
in
his second at bat and later scored on a single in the sixth.
Brent Jenne started the game for SWCC and pitched three innings
allowing just one hit and no runs. Chris Denny, Jas Fergusson
and Zac LaBarreare combined to throw four innings of no-hit
ball.
Hogan had the Bucs' lone hit of the day. Charlie
Soukup started and pitched four innings, allowing three hits and
one earned run. Kenny Ellis, Matt
Smith and Steven
Thomas combined for three innings. Thomas struck out the side in
the seventh.
After winning both games last year at the Classic, CBU dropped
both decisions this year. CBU will start its spring season
on February 11, playing host to Brescia College.
