Bucs Add Alabama Guard As Latest
Recruit
Memphis, TN – Christian Brothers
University Buccaneer basketball head coach Mike Nienaber
has
announced the signing of Brian Murphy to a National Letter
of Intent to attend CBU beginning in the Fall of 2005.
Murphy is a 6-3 guard from Birmingham, Alabama where he
played at John Carroll Catholic High School. He won a state
championship in 2003 and 2004 where his team went a perfect
36-0 his sophomore season.
A three-year starter at John Carroll, Murphy was named to
the North-South All-Star game this past season. He was an
All-Area selection, a member of the Birmingham All-Metro
team and a McDonald's All-American Nominee. He participated
in the Alabama Power Slam Three Point Shootout his senior
year.
A standout in the classroom where he is a member of the
math honor society Mu Alpha Theta, Nienaber believes Murphy
is a perfect fit at CBU.
"He is a great athlete and a great student," Nienaber said.
"He gives us a lot of flexibility with the ability to play
either the one, two, or the three positions on the court.
Brian comes from an outstanding high school program and is
used to winning. Having that attitude is an absolute plus."
Murphy joins Colin Flynn, who signed in the fall, and Brandon
Shane and Nick Kohs as Nienaber's 2005 recruiting class.
