Buccaneers Fall To No. 23 Memphis,
81-70 In Exhibition Play

Memphis, TN – The Christian Brothers University
Buccaneer basketball team took a 40-34 lead into the locker
room at the half, but couldn't keep up with the No. 23 ranked
Memphis Tigers and fell in exhibition play, 81-70.
Clint Dowdle
was on fire in the first half. The senior from Cordova hit
everything he shot going 5-5 from the field, 3-3 from three-point
range and 2-2 from the free-throw line. He ended the half
with 15 points in 17 minutes.
The Bucs shot 56 percent from the field and 54 percent from
long range in the first half, while the Tigers shot 61 percent
and 57 percent, respectively.
CBU pushed its lead to nine on a jumper from Lou
Wright just four minutes into the second half. The Tigers
went on a 15-5 run in the next five minutes to take a one-point
lead at 51-50. The run extended to 38-4 as the Tigers went
up 20 with just five minutes remaining in the game. The Bucs
fought back and ended the game on a 16-7 run.
Dowdle finished with a game-high 25 points, shooting 8-12
from the field and 4-6 from long range. Wright had 17 points
and a game-high six rebounds. Jake
Bazeley had eight points and four assists. The Bucs out
rebounded Memphis 27-24 and had 12 offensive rebounds. Sean
Banks led the Tigers with 25 points on 9-10 shooting.
CBU will play its final exhibition game on Thursday, November
11 at 7:15 p.m. at Murray State. They open the regular season
on Monday, November 15 at LeMoyne-Owen College.
