Tabbed To Finish Sixth In GSC West

Birmingham, AL – The Christian Brothers University
Buccaneer basketball team has been picked by the coaches of
the Gulf South Conference (West Division) to finish sixth
in the Pre-Season Poll.
The Bucs finished fourth in the West last year with a 23-6
overall record and an 11-5 conference mark. They finished
the regular season ranked 19th nationally in the NCAA Division
II Coaches Poll.
Henderson State was chosen by the coaches to finish first
in the GSC West. They received four first-place, two second
and two third-place votes for 58 points. Central Arkansas,
Ouachita Baptist, Delta State, Harding, CBU, Arkansas-Monticello,
Southern Arkansas and Arkansas Tech round out the GSC West.
West Georgia received three first and third-place votes along
with one third-place vote for 44 total points and was picked
to win the GSC East. Montevallo, the reigning GSC Tournament
Champion was tabbed to finish second and was chosen by the
coaches to repeat as GSC Tournament champs. Valdosta State,
Alabama-Huntsville, North Alabama, West Florida, West Alabama
and Lincoln Memorial round out the GSC East.
Jake Bazeley
was named to the Pre-Season All-GSC Team. The senior from
Cincinnati finished 10th in the conference in free-throw shooting
and was second on the team in points (14.0) and rebounding
(5.7). Bazeley is one of three returning starters for the
Bucs this year along with Jordon
Jeffries and Clint
Dowdle. Jeffries finished third on the team in scoring
with 12.3 points per game and led the team in rebounding with
7.4 per contest. Dowdle has been the starting point guard
all three years and led the GSC in assist to turnover ratio
and finished ninth and tenth in three-point field goals made
and percentage in the conference.
The Bucs will start their season with an exhibition game
against the University of Memphis at the FedEx Forum on Saturday,
November 6 at 7 p.m.
