Memphis, TN – The Harding University
men and the University of Tampa women have captured the the
2004 NCAA Division II South Region Cross Country Championships.
Harding's men took the first four individual places for a
nearly perfect 17 points led by sophomore Peter Kosgei with
a time of 29:52. Maciej Miereczko, Julius Kosgei, Reed Fischer
(all from Harding), along with West Florida's Michael Padilla
rounded out the top five individual finishers. Harding, Kennesaw
State and Florida Southern all qualified as teams for the
National Meet to be ran at the University of Southern Indiana.
Padilla and Southern Arkansas' Adrian Romanos both qualified
as individuals for the national meet.
Ben Knoernschild was the Bucs' top runner finishing 54th
with a time of 34:36. The Bucs as a team finished 20th of
22 teams.
Harding's Hellen Singoei took the women's individual title.
Clayton State's Allison Kreutzer, Harding's Kalina Szetyn,
Tampa's Allison Macsas and Kennesaw State's Patrina Hayes
rounded out the top five finishers for the women. Tampa scored
64 points to win the women's title followed by Harding, Kennesaw
State and North Florida all qualifying as teams for the National
Meet at Southern Indiana. Kreutzer and North Alabama's Emry
McKay both qualified as individuals.
Kim Krump was CBU's top runner finishing 68th with a time
of 25:15. The Lady Bucs as a team finished 25th.
