Birmingham, AL – Christian Brothers University Buccaneer senior's Mariano Ilari and Chris Marwood, along with junior Nathan Chantara have all been named to the Pre-Season All-Gulf South Conference Men's Soccer Team.

The Bucs were picked by the coaches in the conference to finish fifth in the Pre-Season Poll. West Florida, who had their entire 2004 season wiped out by Hurricane Ivan, was picked to win the GSC. GSC Tournament runner-up and defending South Region Champion Central Arkansas was picked second. Lincoln Memorial, Montevallo, CBU, Alabama-Huntsville, Ouachita Baptist, Harding and Delta State round out the poll.

Ilari was the GSC Co-Player of the Year in 2003 after being named First-Team All-Conference and leading the Bucs in goals with 14. He led the Bucs in goals and assists last season with eight and seven, respectively. The seven assists were third in the GSC.

Marwood came on in his first season last year with the Bucs and was named Second-Team All-GSC. He scored four goals and added four assists to finish second on the team with 12 points. Chantara has helped anchor one of the GSC's top defenses the past two seasons. He had five shots on goal last year and started in 17 of the 18 matches played.

"Having as much turnover as we had this past off season, I can't expect the coaches to look at us and be scared," said Head Coach Clint Browne. "However, we have every intention of proving each and everyone of them wrong."

The Bucs open the season with road exhibition contests at Division I teams Drury on August 14 and Memphis on August 20. They start the regular season at home on August 25 against 2004 NCAA Division II national runner-up Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. at Signaigo Field.
