Lady Bucs Make 17 Second-Half
Free Throws And Defeat Florida Gulf Coast, 55-50

Memphis, TN– The Christian
Brothers University Lady Buccaneer basketball team came back
from an early 17-point deficit and defeated the Florida Gulf
Coast Eagles, 55-50 tonight in Canale Arena.
CBU (12-7) went down 23-7 at the 6:55 mark in the first half.
The Lady Bucs were down 27-16 at the end of the half, shooting
just 17 percent from the field.
FGCU (15-6) was led by seven points from Andrea Holbrook
at the half. The Eagles shot 39 percent from the field.
CBU scored the first four buckets of the half cutting the
lead to seven at the 19 minute mark. The Lady Bucs moved the
margin to four, three minutes later, but 6-0 run by the Eagles
pushed the deficit back to ten.
CBU went on a 15-2 run over the next nine minutes tying the
game at 44 with just 2:33 left. A free-throw from Kristen
Kirkland gave CBU its first lead of the night at 45-44.
The lead was 46-45, CBU with 36 seconds left when Eagle coach
Karl Smesko was called for a technical foul. Kirkland made
both free-throws as she downed eight freebies in the final
36 seconds.
Kirkland led all scorers with 19 points. She pulled down
six rebounds and made 13-15 free-throws. Charle
Moore had 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Jackie
Moore had nine points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Bucs out
scored the Eagles 39-23 in the second half and forced 28 FGCU
turnovers. CBU stole the ball 13 times.
The Lady Bucs will be back in action on Monday, February
7 when they travel to Ouachita Baptist. The tip off is slated
for 6 p.m.
