Lady Bucs Play To 2-2 Double-Overtime Tie With Florida Southern

Box Score

Carrolton, GA – The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer soccer team has been picked to finish fifth by the coaches of the Gulf South Conference in the Pre-Season GSC Women's Soccer Poll.

Seniors Ella Thorsteinsdottir and Ciara McGuiness, along with sophomore Embla Grettarsdottir were named to the Pre-Season All-GSC Team.

Despite having the entire 2004 season cancelled after Hurricane Ivan, West Florida was picked as the pre-season favorite to end the Lady Bucs' reign of five-straight GSC Titles.

Lincoln Memorial, Harding, West Georgia, CBU, Central Arkansas, Montevallo, Alabama-Huntsville, North Alabama, Ouachita Baptist and Delta State round out the poll. West Georgia will be in its first year of competition in the GSC.

McGuiness is a returning Second-Team All-GSC performer. She was second on the team in scoring last year with eight goals and five assists for 21 points. Thorsteinsdottir was a First-Team All-GSC selection last season anchoring a defense that recorded five shutouts last season. Grettarsdottir earned First-Team All-GSC honors last year as a freshman after scoring three goals and adding two assists in 14 matches for the Lady Bucs. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the GSC Tournament.

"We're light in numbers this year, however, the core of last year's championship team returns," said head coach Kieron Heblich. "I think we have to re-establish an identity for the program. This season will be a challenge for the players and I'm interested to see how they respond to it."
