Lady Bucs Score First, But Fall
To Bethel, 3-1

Memphis, TN – The Christian Brothers
University Lady Buccaneer soccer team got on the board first,
but three unanswered goals from visiting Bethel College lifted
the Lady Wildcats over CBU, 3-1 in action at Signaigo Field.
CBU (0-2-1) scored first 13 minutes into the second half
when Ciara McGuiness connected on a penalty kick after a
Bethel player was caused for a handball in the box.
BC( 1-0) came into the game ranked No. 9 nationally in the
NAIA. Both teams remained scoreless at the half, but two
goals from Bethel's Candice Cunningham and another from
Leah O'Grady gave Bethel its first win of the year.
CBU out shot Bethel 9-8 in the game but got just one shot
on goal. McGuiness led the offensive attack for the Lady
Bucs with five shots. Rachael
Valenzuela had three shots,
while Helen Goodacre added
another.
The Lady Bucs were scheduled to play a match at William
Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS, but due to the devastation
from Hurricane Katrina, that match has been cancelled. The
next match for CBU will be next Sunday, September 11 when
the Lady Bucs play host to Tusculum at 1 p.m.
