Arkansas Defeats Lady Bucs 4-3 In Nine Innings

Magnolia, AR – The Christian Brothers University
Lady Buccaneer softball team dropped the finale of a three
game series today to Southern Arkansas, 4-3 in nine innings.
CBU (10-17, 6-9 GSC) gave up two runs in the bottom of the
fifth, going down 2-0. The Lady Bucs, however, scored three
in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.
Tia Shores lined
a single off of the third baseman's glove to start the inning.
She stole second and Jenny
Bernard walked behind her. Shores moved over to third
on a passed ball and Bernard moved up to second on a bunt
single from Paula
Cerrito. Hannah
Shackelford took the first pitch she saw and lined it
to left center scoring both runners and tying the game. Cerrito
scored the third run on a fielders choice.
The Lady Riders tied the game in the seventh on an RBI single
from Cassie Blackwood. Blackwood ended the game in the bottom
of the ninth, when she doubled home Lauren Frazier. Blackwood
also pitched four innings of hitless relief.
Shackelford had one hit and drove in two. Bernard, Cerrito
and Shores all scored once. Megan
Sharp pitched all eight and two thirds innings allowing
just four earned runs and struck out four.
CBU will return to action this Thursday, April 7 when they
play host to Rhodes College at 4:30 p.m.
