Lady Bucs Fall 5-3 In Series

Memphis, TN - Despite out hitting
Arkansas-Monticello 9-6, the Christian Brothers University
Lady Buccaneer softball team lost the final game of the three-game
series, 5-3 today at Bland Field.
CBU (6-10, 2-4 GSC) went down early as the Cotton Blossoms
scored two runs in the first inning. The Lady Bucs tied it
up in the bottom of the second on RBI singles from Lauren
Zavelli and Jenny
Bernard.
UAM (22-6, 3-0 GSC) knocked out CBU starter Angela
Dunn with two outs in the second inning when a line drive
off her ankle forced her to the bench. The Blossoms scored
another run in the third and two more in the fifth when errors
forced home runs. CBU scored once more in the bottom of the
fifth on a UAM error.
Dunn started and went 1.2 innings allowing just two earned
runs on three hits. Megan
Sharp and Kathryn
Bomar pitched 5.1 innings of relief, allowing just one
earned run between them and striking out five. Bomar held
UAM hitless over the final two innings.
Bomar went 3-3 at the plate, while Hanna
Shackelford had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Bernard
and Melissa Eillers
had an RBI each.
The Lady Bucs will travel to Union University, tomorrow,
March 15 for a 2 p.m. start, and will host a weekend conference
series with Ouachita Baptist on Friday, March 18 and Saturday,
March 19.
