Lady Bucs Score Six Runs In Final Two Innings To Defeat Ouachita Baptist, 10-9

- Samantha Maness had a three-run home run in the sixth inning and Hannah Shackelford had a game-winning single in the seventh and the Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer softball team came from behind to defeat Ouachita Baptist, 10-9 today.

CBU (7-12, 3-4 GSC) scored four runs in each of the first four innings and six in the final two to defeat the Lady Tigers.

OBU (20-10, 1-3 GSC) had home runs from Amy Brettingen, Jeni Maxton and Zara Kamruddin.

Trailing 9-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Netia Shores started the inning with a single up the middle. Jenny Bernard walked, but the next two hitters popped up. A wild pitch moved Shores and Bernard over to second and third. Jennifer Longo had an infield single and a run scored when the pitcher bobbled the ball allowing Shores to cross the plate. Maness then took the first pitch she saw and hit it over the fence in left center. CBU scored four runs in the inning to cut the lead to one.

Melissa Eilers started the bottom of the seventh with a double down the right field line, but the next two batters struck out. Eilers advanced to third on a wild pitch and Bernard walked putting runners on the corners. Paula Cerrito got an infield single scoring Eilers and Shackelford lined a pitch into left field scoring Bernard with the winning run.

Maness went 3-3 with four RBIs a run scored and a home run. Shackelford went 3-5 with two RBIs and Eilers and Cerrito each picked up RBIs of their own. Megan Sharp started the game going two and a third innings. Angela Dunn and Kathryn Bomar pitched the final four and a two thirds of an inning with Bomar throwing three scoreless to pick up her fifth win of the season.

The two teams will finish the series tomorrow, March 19 with a double-header beginning at noon.
