Lady Bucs Split Double-Header
With Ouachita Baptist, But Win Weekend Series

Memphis, TN - The Christian Brothers University Lady
Buccaneer softball team split the final games of the weekend
series with Ouachita Baptist today, winning game one 4-1,
but losing the second, 5-4. They took the series from the
Lady Tigers 2-1.
CBU (8-13, 4-5 GSC) scored once in the fourth inning of game
one on a single from Kathryn
Bomar scoring Jennifer
Longo when the catcher dropped the relay throw. OBU tied
the game in the top of the sixth, leaving the Lady Bucs to
win in their last at bat.
Melissa Eilers
led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to center.
Angela Dunn followed
that up with a single to right putting runners on first and
second with no outs. A pitching change brought in Amy Brettingen
for the Lady Tigers to face Netia
Shores. Shores went down 0-2 after fouling off the first
two pitches. She worked the count to 3-2 and hit the next
pitch over the scoreboard in left field for her first home
run of her career and a 4-1 win for CBU.
Bomar threw a complete-game, allowing just one earned run
and striking out three while walking none. She improved to
6-3 on the season.
OBU (21-11, 2-4 GSC) scored three runs in the second inning
to take a quick 3-0 lead in game two. The Lady Tigers scored
again in the third to make it 4-0 before the Lady Bucs scored
twice in the bottom of the third. Paula
Cerrito lined a triple to right center scoring Shores,
and Hannah Schackelford
grounded to second scoring Cerrito.
CBU scored twice more in the fifth. Shores doubled with one
out and advanced to third on an error by the right fielder.
Jenny Bernard singled home Shores, but moved to third on a
two-base error by the centerfielder. Cerrito singled to left
field scoring Bernard to tie the game at four.
OBU's Zara Kamaruddin doubled down the left field line scoring
Ashley Rader for the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth.
The Lady Bucs threatened in the bottom of the seventh and
had two on with one out, but a line-drive, double-play ended
the game.
Bernard and Shackelford each had three hits and an RBI with
Bernard scoring once. Cerrito had two hits with two RBIs,
while Samantha Maness had three hits. Shores went 2-5 with
four RBIs and three runs scored including a walk-off, three-run
home run in game one.
The Lady Bucs will head to Central Arkansas on Thursday,
March 24 and Friday March 25 to play a three-game series with
the Sugar Bears.
