Lady Bucs Split Double-Header With Central Arkansas/Hold Strong To Fourth Place In GSC West

- The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer softball team split a double-header with Central Arkansas today, but more importantly won their second conference series in a row and remain in fourth place in the GSC West.

CBU (10-14, 6-6 GSC) lost game one 3-2, but rebounded to win game two 8-5.

UCA (11-13, 3-6 GSC) had a complete game performance from pitcher Natalie Faulkner in game one. She allowed two unearned runs and struck out four.

The Lady Bucs got on top first in game one with two runs in the fourth inning. An error scored Jennifer Longo and a single from Netia Shores scored Samantha Maness.

UCA, however, answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and would make it stand.

The Lady Bucs jumped out early again in game two scoring two in the first and one in the third, before UCA got to within one run in the bottom of the third. Longo hit a sacrifice fly to score Jenny Bernard for the first run, while Maness singled home Hannah Shackelford for the second. Maness drove in Paula Cerrito for the game's third run.

CBU broke out in the fourth, scoring four runs. With two runners on, Bernard walked to load the bases. A fielder's choice scored one run before Longo doubled down the left field line clearing the bases. Longo would be out at third trying to extend the double into a triple. The Lady Bucs scored one more insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Maness finished the day 4-7 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs. Shackelford went 2-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Bernard and Cerrito scored twice each. Longo drove in four and scored once. Angela Dunn and Megan Sharp combined for six innings in game one, allowing just three earned runs. Dunn struck out four and Sharp struck out two. Kathryn Bomar pitched five innings in game two, allowing just two earned runs and earned her eighth win of the year and second of the series.

The Lady Bucs will be back at home this Monday, March 28 with a double-header against Bethel College beginning at 2 p.m.
