Bucs Open Up GSC Play With 2-1 Loss To Arkansas Tech In Extra

Memphis, TN - The Arkansas Tech
Golden Suns scored a run in the top of the eighth inning and
defeated the Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer
softball team, 2-1 today in both team's Gulf South Conference
opener.
CBU (4-5, 0-1 GSC) scored a run in the bottom of the first
when Jennifer Longo
singled through the left side moving Jenny
Bernard to third, but Bernard scored when the left fielder
bobbled the ball.
The Golden Suns (7-2, 1-0 GSC) answered back in the top of
the third when two errors led to Tech's first run. Molly Schweigert
reached on an error by Longo, and later scored when Lauren
Zavelli threw wildly trying to pick Schweigert off of
third base.
Tech went ahead in the top of the eighth on a single from
Sara Goodman, scoring Nicole Berry.
Kathryn Bomar started
for the Lady Bucs, going five and a third innings, allowing
just one un-earned run and four hits. Megan
Sharp picked up the loss in relief.
Longo, Bomar and Netia
Shores had the team's only hits.
The Lady Bucs and the Golden Sun will finish the three-game
series tomorrow, March 5 at noon with a double-header.
