Lady Bucs Open Up GSC Play With 2-1 Loss To Arkansas Tech In Extra Innings

Box Score

Memphis, TN
- The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns scored a run in the top of the eighth inning and defeated the Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer softball team, 2-1 today in both team's Gulf South Conference opener.

CBU (4-5, 0-1 GSC) scored a run in the bottom of the first when Jennifer Longo singled through the left side moving Jenny Bernard to third, but Bernard scored when the left fielder bobbled the ball.

The Golden Suns (7-2, 1-0 GSC) answered back in the top of the third when two errors led to Tech's first run. Molly Schweigert reached on an error by Longo, and later scored when Lauren Zavelli threw wildly trying to pick Schweigert off of third base.

Tech went ahead in the top of the eighth on a single from Sara Goodman, scoring Nicole Berry.

Kathryn Bomar started for the Lady Bucs, going five and a third innings, allowing just one un-earned run and four hits. Megan Sharp picked up the loss in relief.

Longo, Bomar and Netia Shores had the team's only hits.

The Lady Bucs and the Golden Sun will finish the three-game series tomorrow, March 5 at noon with a double-header.
