Lady Bucs Use Extra Innings In Double-Header Sweep Of Arkansas Tech

Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

Memphis, TN
- The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer softball team played six extra innings today, but came out on top in each game, defeating Arkansas Tech, 5-4 in 11 innings and finishing the sweep with an nine-inning, 6-5 win.

CBU (6-5, 2-1 GSC) went down early giving up two runs to the Golden Suns in the fourth inning of game one. They tied the game, however, the sixth inning, when an error allowed both Lauren Zavelli and Kathryn Bomar to score.

Neither team scored again until the 11th when Tech scored two in their half. Netia Shores drove in the first run of the inning for the Lady Bucs and with two outs, Jennifer Longo singled to center field scoring Shores and Paula Cerrito.

Bomar picked up the win in relief of Angela Dunn, moving her record to 4-1 on the season. Dunn pitched three innings, allowing just one earned run.

ATU (7-4, 1-2 GSC) picked up three first inning runs in game two to go on top early. The Lady Bucs scored once in the third and three more times in the fourth to go back on top, 4-3. Melissa Eilers picked up an RBI single in the third and Bomar had a bases-clearing double in the fourth.

Tech scored once in the sixth to tie the game, and again in the eighth to take a 5-4 lead. CBU scored in its half of the eighth off an RBI single from Dunn. Bomar came through again in the ninth, when she singled through the left side, scoring Jenny Bernard to win the game for the Lady Bucs.

Megan Sharp picked up the complete-game win going nine innings, and striking out five, allowing just two earned runs. Bomar drove in four runs, going 3-5 in game two. Bernard scored twice in the nightcap.

The Lady Bucs will travel to Mobile, Alabama this Tuesday, March 8 to take on Spring Hill College in a double-header beginning at 1 p.m.
