Greeneville, TN – Christian Brothers University
junior shortstop Jenny
Bernard has been named to the first
team of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District college
division team
as voted on by sports information directors in the district.
The All-District team is announced in conjunction with the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
It includes players from the states of Tennessee, Alabama,
Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio in NCAA Division II, III and
NAIA schools. Student-athletes must possess a cumulative
3.20 GPA or higher and be a starter or significant reserve
to be nominate.
Bernard helped lead the Lady Bucs to the most Gulf South
Conference wins in school history this season. She finished
the year third on the team in runs scored, while leading
the Lady Bucs in triples and stolen
bases. Bernard now goes to the national ballot for All-American
consideration.
Paula Cerrito was named to the District IV second team.
Cerrito finished the season with a .288 average and was second
on the team with 19 runs scored and 40 hits. She led the
team with 14 sacrifice hits and was one of the hardest individuals
in the Gulf South Conference to strike out.
Bernard is a junior biology major and has a 3.96 GPA. Cerrito
is a junior chemistry major and has a 3.92 GPA.
Head coach Donna Crone is happy for the two stating that
success on and off the field of play is something she stresses
to each of her players.
"Both Jenny and Paula truly epitomize the meaning of a
student-athlete," Crone said. "They have been team leaders
and starters since coming to CBU and have been vital pieces
to the puzzle."
