Pilkington Named To All-GSC First Team
Birmingham, AL - Christian Brothers University
senior second baseman Megan Pilkington has been named a first-team
All-Gulf South Conference selection today as voted on by the
coaches of the GSC.
Pilkington is a four-year starter for the Lady Bucs and owns
the CBU softball career records for games played, at bats,
RBIs, hits and doubles. She was the GSC Co-Freshman of the
Year and was a second team all-conference selection two years
ago. She becomes the first Lady Buc to be named to the GSC's
First-Team.
Pilkington is a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar
Athlete and led the Lady Bucs this year in batting average,
hits, doubles, RBI’s, total bases, slugging percentage
and on-base percentage. This season, the senior from Elgin,
Ill. hit .346 with a home run and 26 RBIs and led the team
with 11 doubles. She hit .444 over the final month of the
season.
Sophomore shortstop Jenny Bernard is a second-team member
and is joined on the team by senior catcher Sara Szpekowski.
Bernard hit .292 this season finishing second on the team
in hits with 40 and led the team in runs scored with 21. Szpekowski
finished third on the team in average (.289) and RBIs with
13 and helped lead CBU down the stretch with clutch hits.
"This is a great accomplishment for the three of them,"
said head coach Donna Crone. "Megan has led the team
all four years here and this is a great way to cap her career.
Jenny is an emerging star in the league, and Sara's leadership
on and off the field was important to the success of the team."
