Lady Bucs Sign Mississippi Player
of the Year In Early Signing Period
Memphis, TN - Christian Brothers University
Lady Buccaneer softball coach Donna Crone has announced the
signing of Nikki Dunn, the 2004 Gatorade Player of the Year
in Mississippi, to a National Letter of Intent to attend CBU
and play softball in the spring of 2006.
Dunn, a pitcher from Southaven High School, was the Player
of the Year as a junior and is the reigning DeSoto County
Player of the Year. She was named the Commercial Appeal's
Best of the Preps Player of the Year in 2003.
Dunn was a 2003 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region
and All-State selection. She was featured in Sport's Illustrated
"Faces In the Crowd" in May of 2003 and was a state
champion in 2003 playing with current Lady Buc Hannah
Shackelford.
In three years playing for the Lady Chargers, Dunn has amassed
a 47-7 record, striking out 490, walking just 27 and has a
0.41 earned run average.
A highly sought after recruit, Dunn chose CBU over the likes
of Delta State, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
"Nikki is definitely a Division I caliber pitcher,"
Crone said. "She comes in with more accolades than any
player I've ever coached. She should step in and fill the
void after Megan (Sharp)
graduates this year."
