Alumni Comments About the Career Center

On-campus interviewing was very helpful.

The Career Center needs to do more to assist those obtaining education degrees (especially to help them get experience).

It is doing a good job now.

As far as the job opportunities the career center had for Chemical Engineers were very slim, almost none.

Look to expand their contact base to more cities. Their main focus was on Memphis Companies.

To remember student’s appointments.

Offer a well-rounded venue of campus interviews. They should better cover the variety of majors.

I personally think that the Career Center is designed to help day students only. Every time I have tried to use their resources, I find only myself hitting a brick wall. Or is there a black and white issue involved?

The services provided by The Career Center are not very beneficial to alumni who leave the Memphis/Mid-South area. My husband was transferred to another state, so most of the services do not apply to me.

I think the Career Center caters more to the needs of business majors.

Make companies inside and outside the Memphis area more aware of the intelligent students at CBU.

The companies that are attending job fairs should be searching for educated, professional, qualified candidates. I get the impression that they were often searching for hourly, slave labor workers. They should have their positions pre-screened by Career Center Execs.

More jobs

To be open after hours at least 2 nights a week for adults, and sponsor more substantial adult job fairs. Offer technical classes that are office related.

More assistance to students making career changes. Those that are not familiar in the area being sought.

Help more students get involved in internships. This is the only way a student will learn what the real world holds for them. I feel that too many students are being told that if they get a degree from CBU, he/she will have no problem getting a job making $40,000. Students are being mislead and develop a false sense of security.

The workshops were not at convenient times.

I would like to see a mailing twice a year to alumni informing them of possible job opportunities, even if your not looking, a better opportunity could come along.

Required career planning class Sr. year, credits offered for internship, better communication with off campus student.

I would like to see them have a bigger budget to add and update things in the lab.

Internet resume posting service.

The Career Center could have provided better job fairs, but they were moving in the right direction.

To have someone with the ability to deal with & respect older students. I found this center to be worthless & the people I deal with didn’t give me the feeling I belonged there. Same feeling about the alumni office.

Some of the services were less than adequate. But the place does get busy at certain times of the year.

Increase exposure to services available to X-MBA students, both during enrollment & after graduation.

  1. Personnel could be friendlier, helpful, and customer/student focused
  2. Be prepared and help students on non-traditional tracks, i.e. those preparing for grad school
Publicize services better to evening students. While ½ of CBU’s enrollment are evening students, they are virtually ignored by the career center.

Work on the job training, letting students know of these types of opportunities

More at night – stay open a few nights – more access

Seminars who have never worked on office etiquette

Not enough science rep. In job fairs

Not enough people to help

More companies in fair not necessarily from Memphis

Great

More career trend seminars

Have more job fairs, include alumni in job fairs

Not well publicized to entering freshman. By junior year info is forgotten.

More alumni mixers where people can network

Call back to see if job posted with career center has been filled. More space needed in job description in newsletter for companies posting in it.

Didn’t get any interviews. Don’t know why.

Post more positions/internships that don’t require you to seek out career center

Better publicize the workshops

More visible – Advertise on campus visit classes; too remote a location on campus.

More alumni interaction – alumni business directory!! Networking opportunities for evening program business owners/business owners.

Return calls; better staffed more available; open to viewing files without having to wait for someone to access.

Continue Publicizing in flyers to evening student especially (all services)
