Alumni Comments About the Career Center

Could improve for the evening program

Advertise their existence

List the employment requirements of companies interviewing on campus ahead of time so we won't waste our time preparing for similar job interviews and missing class time for interviews that end up being a dead end.

The job fairs were not directed towards liberal arts majors.

Provide information on employers, such as the State, that will hire inexperienced graduates. They will often train graduates for one year. Also, Youth Villages and Mid-Town Mental Health will train graduates. Each of these also offer education dollars.

I would like to use the Career Center for my employment needs.

I would like to see alumni tell the school what they are looking for. Have graduates talk with alumni about potential job openings. I was under the false impression that previous alumni would be good contacts for future job opportunities but there seems to be no connection.

Expand/broaden corporate "customer base". I had 8-10 years of rich work experience and only received one phone call from a potential employer, a food service company, and that was almost a year after graduation.

I think setting up mock interviews would help people prepare for this intimidating situation.

I found the Career Center to be useless. They were of no assistance when I was looking for a job and the workshops I attended were useless.

Make job fairs convenient for evening students.

The Career Center should aid with internships and co-ops and branch out to non-local companies.

Publications, monthly or weekly, that actually get to students. Better communication between students and the Career Center.

I think it would be good if they would bring more out-of-town companies.

Need better companies who are interested in MBA candidates

Need someone who knows "something" about scientific jobs.

There was nothing to my knowledge for education majors.

At the job fairs there were a lot of business employers, but not many medical employers who needed help in the medical field.

Need more personalized counseling for careers and help finding jobs for students who wish to relocate to another city.

Better industry connections for graduate school students are essential for moving forward.

Work with local employers and assist students in procuring major-related internships.

I am not familiar with the Career Center, but it should at least offer resume writing, mock interviews, a database of jobs on-line, and internships.

Spread assistance evenly across majors, i.e., more opportunities for science majors (it seems that business and engineering were the focus.)

Need more high-tech capability for resume updating.

More internships need to be available.

It was obvious that the Career Center workers spent little time helping the engineering majors. There were very few helpful leads given to me and my fellow students.
