The Life of a
Lasallian Volunteer

Anne Hotze (’01) joined the Lasallian Volunteers after she graduated from CBU last May. In August, she moved to San Francisco to teach at De Marillac Middle School, a new inner-city middle school started by the Brothers. Anne, a history major, is teaching 6th-grade math and science to a class of 19 students, and is taking an education course at St. Mary’s College at Moraga. She’s living at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep (the Brother’s high school) with eight Brothers and an “opinionated New Yorker” for a roommate. In a profile in the winter issue of Lasallian Volunteer Update, Anne says “I now realize the impact a teacher has on the lives of her students, and more importantly, the impact students have on the lives of their teachers. My students are some of the biggest success stories I will ever have in life. From the straight A’s to the struggling D’s, they will always be my class.” By the way, she says San Francisco is a great town to live in if you don’t have to pay rent.
