CONGRATULATIONS

Coach Gary Lee (Volleyball) and Simone Ludwig (Marketing ’98, M.B.A. ’01) were married on May 4 at St. Peter Catholic Church.

KUDOS
Yancy Calvo (Evening Program) has been elected to the position of Tennessee Liaison to the National Academic Advising Association Region 3 Board.

Adam Cartwright (Chemistry ’02) has been accepted to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center School of Medicine.

Dr. Malinda Fitzgerald (Biology) gave a poster presentation at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology in Ft. Lauderdale, May 5-10. The presentation is titled “Superior Salivatory Nucleus (SSN) Regulates Choroidal Blood Flow,” coauthored by Seth Jones, Sherry Cuthbertson and Anton Reiner. Dr. Fitzgerald also gave a talk on “Utilization of Laser Doppler Flowmetry to Evaluate Microvascular Blood Flow in Both Research and Teaching Environments” at the Memphis Area Engineering and Sciences Conference on May 10, and presented a seminar on “Ocular Blood Flow and Aging” at the Southern College of Optometry on May 14.

An article by Dr. Elizabeth Nelson (Behavioral Science), entitled “Why Every Department Needs a Strategic Plan,” was published in Teaching of Psychology (Volume 29, Number 2). Teaching of Psychology is a publication of Division 2 of the American Psychological Association.

Lady Bucs Megan Pilkington (Shortstop/Chemical Engineering ’04), Sheri Wassel (Utility/Biology ’04), and Megan Sharp (Pitcher/Undeclared ’05) were named to the All-Gulf South Conference Second Team in softball.

Buccaneer pitcher Steven Oelke (Marketing ’03) was selected to the All-Gulf South Conference First Team in baseball. Teammates Zac Clements (Catcher/Information Technology Management ’02) and Rusty Cagle (Outfielder/Liberal Studies ’03) were named to the All-GSC Second Team.

CONDOLENCES

Jim Gillenwater, husband of Carol Gillenwater, former School of Science secretary, died May 27. ASSISI GRANTS CBU $3 MILLION

The Assisi Foundation announced a $3 million grant to CBU in May. The funds will primarily be used to renovate Benilde Hall for engineering classrooms and laboratories. The grant is the largest single foundation gift ever received by the university.

FINANCIAL PLANNING PROGRAM
The School of Business will offer a new board-registered program in financial planning in September. The program consists of six courses, meeting one night per week, over a 12-month period. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the Certified Financial Planner certification examination. Four preview sessions and open house events are scheduled for persons interested in the CFP program. The first will be held on June 10, 5:00-7:00 p.m., in the Montesi Executive Center. Other open houses will be July 16, August 8, and August 27. ART EXHIBIT
An exhibition of paintings by Judith McWillie is on exhibit in the University Gallery (lower level of Plough Library) through July 12. McWillie, a recognized authority on the Afro-Atlantic tradition in outsider and folk art, is the chair of drawing and painting at the University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art. She is also the daughter of James McWillie (O’Donnell Archives) and the sister of Betty McWillie (Career Center).
